Pure Action is a proud sponsor of a new yoga outreach program for low-income families at East Cooper Community Outreach (ECCO) in Mount Pleasant, South Carolina. ECCO is a nonprofit organization which provides various services including healthcare, financial education, job readiness programs to 4,000 families per year.

Starting in September, yoga classes consisting of pranayama ECCOand chanting were held for one hour on Thursdays at noon where ECCO families and staff members are all welcome. Classes are taught by yoga instructor, Dr. Sundar Balasubramanian (right) of the Medical University of South Carolina who graciously volunteers his time.

Dr. Balasubramanian has practiced yoga for over 20 years and was taught by his father in India. In addition to the classes at ECCO, he also teaches classes for cardiopulmonary rehabilitation patients at MUSC twice per week.

As of last week, thanks to your donations, we delivered new Matsyoga mats for the ECCO classes and for the first time last Thursday, participants were able to practice yoga postures in addition to pranayama and chanting! We are so grateful to be a part of this new program and look forward to hearing more about how yoga is changing lives at ECCO.
